Ashi Sutra

Discover and experience ASHI SUTRA, the art of therapeutic ASHI-compression combined with a flowing series of THREAD-stretching bodywork.
The term "Ashi" means "foot" in Japanese, while "Sutra" or "thread" comes from Sanskrit, collectively signifying "foot and thread." This practice utilizes therapeutic Ashi-Compression to create an opportunity for the body to repair and reconnect, effectively "suturing" what has become fragmented. Combining these elements in Ashi Sutra creates a synergistic experience that enhances their benefits. It helps unwind muscles and joints, providing immediate relief, improved stability, and enhanced invigoration, and contributes to a lifetime of healthy movement.
ASHI SUTRA can be performed on or off a raised or lowered massage table or Thai yoga mat. It allows clients to be fully dressed or properly draped and does not require massage oil. The technique does not need to be attached to a table, making it flexible for various settings. It can be utilized as a standalone session or with any Deepfeet basics, advanced sequences, or traditional massage techniques. THREADS and ashiatsu-overhead bars work beautifully together. Ashi Sutra is excellent for demonstrating skills at community festival events, wellness expos, and massage competitions.

To receive full course credits and qualify for certification and advanced courses at DeepFeet, you must attend all scheduled class hours. Our policy does not allow for partial Continuing Education Units (CEUs), which means you cannot arrive late or leave early. Any hours missed will need to be made up at the student’s expense. Please ensure that you arrive on time and complete the course in its entirety.
Please arrive to class with clean, soft, pedicured feet. We ask that you shorten and file your toenails, and make an extra effort to soften your heels with a foot file or pumice stone.
We ask that you refrain from texting or talking on your phone during class and be respectful and considerate of your fellow classmates. To ensure everyone's comfort and privacy, videos and pictures can only be taken if all students agree and sign a waiver. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
You will be giving and receiving Ashiatsu throughout the course and may end up lying face down for upwards of two hours. We ask that you are healthy and free of any conditions or recent injuries/surgeries that would contraindicate deep compressive massage techniques (including pregnancy)
You will be asked to sign a code of ethics agreement and workshop liability disclaimer on day one of class.
How can you prepare before class? Walking barefoot is great for waking up your sensory receptors located on the bottom of your feet. There are a number of ways to physically prepare for class. Any class where you work out barefoot is ideal. Our recommendations include Barre classes, Yoga, and Pilates,. In addition, picking up marbles or small objects with your feet will help with dexterity and fine motor movements.

Each student will give and receive two or more hours of Ashiatsu on the first two days of class.
